Oakland Cemetery

The Historic Oakland Cemetery in the city of Atlanta, is an enchanting place, for aesthetic and historical reasons, and holds a special fascination as the final resting home for thousand of souls, including famous players in the economic, social, historic and cultural development of this city. For example, the famous "Gone with the Wind" author, Margaret Mitchell, the golf great Robert T. (Bobby) Jones, leaders in business, religion and politics, and citizens that played an important role in the evolution of Atlanta can be found here. As mentioned in the Historic Oakland Foundation web page, the funerary art in this cemetery is unequalled, influenced by different architectural styles and symbolisms of the faith and beliefs of those who rest there. This panoramic photography was taken in the Memorial Confederate Ground, where are located commemorative monuments to the fallen soldiers of the Civil War, as well as the graves of approximately 6,900 soldiers, including 3,000 unknown.

El Cementerio Histórico de Oakland en la ciudad de Atlanta, es uno de esos sitios encantadores por razones esteticas e históricas, así como por la fascinacion especial, de un lugar donde reposan muchas almas, incluyendo celebres protagonistas del desarrollo económico, social, histórico y cultural de esta ciudad. Ejemplo de ello son Margaret Mitchell, celebre autora de ?Lo que el Viento se Llevó?, el golfista Robert T. (Bobby) Jones, entre otros líderes empresariales, religiosos, políticos y ciudadanos que jugaron un papel importante en la evolución de Atlanta. Como bien se menciona en la página web de la Fundación Oakland Histórico, el arte funerario en este cementerio es incomparable, con influencia de diversos estilos arquitectónicos y con simbolismos propios de la fe y creencias de quienes alli fueron sepultados. Esta fotografía panorámica fue tomada en el área conmemorativa, Memorial Confederate Ground, donde se localizan algunos monumentos a los soldados caídos durante la Guerra Civil, así como las tumbas de aproximadamente 6,900 soldados, incluyendo 3,000 de ellos desconocidos.
